DESCRIPTION
A 4.5-inch king puts this set in a different size class. Most luxury Staunton pieces top out around four inches; these are carved a full step larger - presence you can read from across the room, on a board that anchors it.
Choose your palette: ebony and boxwood for the classic black-and-cream contrast, or bud rosewood and boxwood for a deep racing red that gives the series its name.
Each piece is carved by hand - the knights individually, so every one carries the carver’s cut - and the set ships with two extra queens for pawn promotion: 34 chessmen in all.
Pieces only - board not included. A king this size needs room to stand: pair it with a board of 2.25–2.5 in (57–64 mm) squares from our chess boards collection.
