3 - YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY:

Every chess set, board, and storage box purchased from My Chess Sets is covered by a one-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Coverage starts on the day your order is delivered.

What’s Covered

This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship that appear under normal use, including:

  • Pieces that crack, split, or separate at a glue joint
  • Weighted bases that come loose, shift, or fall out
  • Felt or baize bases that detach
  • Boards that delaminate, develop lifting inlay, or warp beyond what normal humidity movement explains
  • Hinges, latches, or clasps on storage boxes and cases that fail
  • Finish that flakes, bubbles, or peels away from the surface
Coverage applies to the original purchaser and requires proof of purchase (your order number is enough).

What We’ll Do

If we confirm a defect, we will:
1. Send a free replacement part, shipped at our expense. You will never be asked to pay shipping on an approved warranty claim.
2. If the exact piece is no longer produced, send the closest available match, or replace the affected component (board, box, or full set of pieces).
3. If neither is possible, refund the value of the affected component.
We may ask for the defective item back. If we do, we pay the return shipping and send a prepaid label.

A Note on Handcrafted Materials

Wood, bone, and stone are natural materials, and no two sets are identical.

The following are characteristics of handmade work, not defects:
• Variation in grain, figure, and color between pieces or between your set and product photography
• Minor tool marks, small fill spots, or slight asymmetry between hand-turned pieces
• Gradual darkening or patina with age and light exposure
• Small seasonal movement in a board as humidity changes

What’s Not Covered

• Normal wear: scratches, scuffs, surface dulling, flattened felt, and patina from regular play
• Accidental damage: drops, impacts, crushing, pets, or children
• Environmental damage: liquid exposure, heat, prolonged direct sunlight, or storage in extreme humidity. Wooden sets should be kept between roughly 40–60% relative humidity and away from radiators, exterior walls, and windows.
• Improper cleaning: solvents, alcohol, silicone polishes, or any product not listed in our care guide
• Lost or stolen pieces. We do sell individual replacement pieces for most sets at cost plus shipping - contact us and we’ll check availability.
• Modification or third-party repair, including engraving, refinishing, or re-weighting performed by anyone other than us
• Commercial use, such as club, tournament, or rental use
• Sets not purchased directly from us or from an authorized retailer
Shipping Damage Is Separate
If your set arrives damaged in transit, that isn’t a warranty claim - it’s a delivery claim, and it’s fully our problem to solve.
Contact us within 7 days of delivery with photos of the packaging and the damage, and we’ll replace or refund it. Don’t discard the box until the claim is resolved.

How to Make a Claim

1. Contact us through our website or by email with your order number, a description of the issue, and clear photos showing the defect (a wide shot of the whole set plus a close-up works best).
2. We review. We’ll respond within 2 business days and may ask a few follow-up questions or request an additional photo.
3. We ship. Once approved, your replacement goes out at our expense. We’ll send tracking as soon as it’s dispatched.
Please report a defect within 30 days of noticing it. Continuing to use a cracked or failing piece can turn a repairable issue into an unrepairable one.

Your Legal Rights

This warranty is in addition to your rights under applicable consumer law and does not limit them.
Customers in the European Union and United Kingdom retain their full statutory guarantee rights, and Israeli customers retain their rights under the Consumer Protection Law.
Where local law provides greater protection than this warranty, that law applies.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this warranty at any time. The version in effect on the date of your purchase is the one that applies to your order - changes are never applied retroactively.
